Rat+Cat=True Love, Baby

April 19, 2009 at 10:51 pm (cats, cute animal videos, rats) (, , , , , , )

Unbelievably cute. Almost too cute for words.

This video proves that, unlike many humans, animals are definitely not speciests.

And they don’t care about social norms. They could care less what others’ think. They don’t worry about being shunned by society or their individual social groups. And they don’t fear backlash for daring to step out of the box.

I say all of this because I’m guessing that in the rat world, it’s totally not cool to hang with cats. In fact I imagine rats see cats as being beneath them. Mean, slow and not nearly as witty.

And I’m sure in the cat world, it’s beyond faux-paw (haha. get it?) to make friends with a measly mouse or rat. After all, they’re to be hunted, not befriended.

That’s why I just love this video. It totally defies all social norms in both the cat and rat worlds.

If only us humans could be so unbiased.

Enjoy.

Woman Tapes Puppy to Fridge

April 19, 2009 at 4:44 pm (animal cruelty) (, , , , , , , , )

Animal abusers disgust me…disgust me to no end. This story is twisted beyond comprehension.

A Boulder, Colo., woman was angry with her boyfriend. Instead of going after him, she went after his defenseless, eight-month-old puppy.

According to police, Abby Toll bound her boyfriend’s dog’s legs, tail and nose with tape and elastic hair ties. Police report she then taped the dog upside down to the refrigerator, where he remained for 20-30 minutes.

When police responded to a call from a neighbor who reported hearing a dog squealing, they found Rex, bound and taped to the refrigerator. After being freed from the tape, Rex was in severe pain, according to the officers.

“When the elastic hair ties were removed from the dog’s paws, there was a large indention where the bands were, and his paws were swollen. Rex just lay motionless, but breathing,” said police.

Toll was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty and other counts.

The bitch’s boyfriend, Bryan Beck, who admitted to police he did nothing to stop the attack, was charged with a lesser misdemeanor cruelty.

Rex is recovering at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley with another dog found in the home, Peanut.  After working with staff to overcome his fear issues, Rex will be put up for adoption.

Boulder courts, please take this case seriously. A small fine and some community service is NOT an appropriate punishment here. Abuse against animals needs to result in the same penalties as those handed down when the victim is human.
