cute video alert: pug goes for a swim

July 6, 2009 at 9:00 am (Animal Adoption, cute animal videos, Pet Adoption) (, , , , )

Alright, so there’s no back-story to this one. I simply stumbled across this ridiculously adorable video of a pug goin for a swim in a pool.

The reason it jumped out at me is because one of my bff”s, Cody, is absolutely obsessed with Pugs and can’t wait til he’s settled enough to adopt one. Yes, that’s right…ADOPT one. Because Cody’s much too smart–well in this case anyway–to ever, ever buy an animal. Haha, c’mon, that lil jab was damn funny!

In all seriousness though, there’s just absolutely, positively no reason to ever buy from a pet store or breeder, whether you insist upon having a purebred or not. Always adopt!

Okay, that was my plug. Now watch this cute-as-all-hell Pug.

Damn, I’m on a roll today! Ha.

Miss you, Cody!

Obama Bummer

April 15, 2009 at 3:26 pm (Pet Adoption) (, , , , , , , )

Every single year nearly 4 million shelter dogs and cats are euthanized because there aren’t enough homes for them. This is why it’s so important for people to rescue an animal rather than buy one from a pet store or breeder.

A few months ago it was announced the first family would add a rescue dog to the White House. This was very exciting news, especially considering Vice President Joe Biden made the terrible decision to purchase a dog from a breeder.

But this week has been very disappointing.

As much as I love President Obama, I was so upset to hear the first family had accepted a Portuguese water dog from Senator Ted Kennedy, rather than rescuing a dog from a shelter.

I understand it would have likely been very difficult to turn down such a sweet gift offered by the ailing Kennedy, but the Obamas had an opportunity to set a wonderful example regarding the importance of pet adoption. It’s now a missed opportunity that will likely lead to people desperately seeking Portuguese water dogs to add to their households in order to emulate the first family.

There is one positive about the story of Bo. He has already been fixed so there’s no chance of a bunch of little Bo’s running around the White House lawn.

Please adopt, don’t ever buy. When you rescue an animal, it’s something they never forget. They will spend the rest of their lives thanking you.

Just ask my baby girl, Bailey…
