Go Veg for Earth Day

I’m sure many of you are quite aware that tomorrow is Earth Day. But did you know the absolute best thing you can do to help the environment is to cut meat from your diet?

No joke. And I’m not just sayin it because I happen to be vegan. I swear.

A 2006 United Nations study on global warming showed that raising animals for food causes more greenhouse gas emissions than all the planes, cars, trucks, trains and ships in the entire world…combined! That’s right, all combined!

In the US alone, every second, animals being raised for food produce 89,000 lbs of waste. That’s beyond disgusting. And where do you think that waste is going? It’s polluting our land and running into our waters.

And if you think the waste is bad, imagine how much gas is being released from the billions of chickens, pigs, cows and turkeys who are crammed into slaughterhouses at this very minute!

So what it boils down to is this. If you call yourself an environmentalist, you should also be calling yourself vegan or vegetarian. When I hear someone say they’re “going green” and are all about helping the environment, but then they laugh off the notion of going veg…I want to slap ’em. Seriously. It’s completely hypocritical. Following the UN’s study, you absolutely cannot be an environmentalist, and go home and have a hamburger for dinner. It doesn’t fit.

If you really are on a green kick and want to do the most you can to help, I’ve got a simple answer…go veg. It’s the single best thing you can do for the environment. And I bet it’ll be a lot easier for some of you than giving up your beloved SUVs.
